Cover
In the Tea House, Manhattan, Ian Nottingham drinks with a man and recounts his life story.
Orphaned at a young age, Ian was adopted at age 8 by the Nottinghams, separating him from his brother. His new Father was involved in organised crime in London and trained Ian in various types of combat and weaponry.
Once trained Ian was employed by his Father as an assassin. He enjoyed his work and killed without remorse until he was sent to Japan to eliminate a rival’s daughter, Nomi. He fell in love with her and stayed in Japan for five years, learning about honour and new fighting skills, as well as learning Japanese. He asked Nomi to marry him and gained her Father’s permission but then discovered her in bed with another man. Having killed his rival he returned to England.
On his return his Father welcomes him back and sends him to kill Kenneth Irons. He gets through the security but fails to kill Irons. Impressed by his abilities Irons offers Ian a job which he accepts. Things go well with Irons until the arrival of Sara Pezzini at the Rialto Theatre, as Ian again falls for a woman he must eliminate.

Part 2 of 3
Cover
Out dancing her cares away in a club Sara Pezzini discusses her early life.
When she was born her Dad became a local cop and the family were happy for a few years but then her parents began to argue about her. Her Mother then left them on their own for some years and during this time Sara spent a lot of time with her Father at the station. Her Mother returned and not long afterwards Julie was born, who became the centre of her Mother’s world, although to her Father Sara was still the ‘special’ one.
Her parents began fighting again and Sara began to take out her frustrations on playground bullies and worried her teachers with disturbing pictures.
After the murder of her Father Sara was sent to see a psychologist, who decided to take her to see another ‘specialist’ and kidnaps her. When she wakes she's in a room with two men, one of whom is Nottingham. It’s Nottingham who takes her to the Police, saving her for the first time.
Following this incident Sara settled down at school, made it into the academy and became a cop.
In the club she’s being watched.
Sara then remembers her dreams of being surrounded by fire which she can control, a dream she doesn’t understand until she gains possession of the Witchblade.
Sara is then knocked out and taken from the club, when she wakes she’s in a room with cloaked figures who tell her she is the planet’s defender. She then wakes again, this time in her own bed, and finds another planet’s warrior in New York…

Sara is fighting with the warrior when she wakes in a laboratory with Nottingham stood over her. Irons then enters and orders the Level 42 doctor to force Sara’s evolution, increasing her number of chromosomes to 46. Sara manages to pull out the tubes in her body, including the one keeping the Witchblade under control. She then attempts to leave the building and finds other test subjects whom she tries to rescue. She then returns to deal with Irons, Nottingham and the doctor. On making her escape from the lab Sara sees another test subject who’s still alive and rescues him.
(I liked the first two issues of this but the third one I didn’t really understand, didn’t get the whole prophecy thing?!)
