#55 - May 2002
Part 2 of 4

Mafia man Tony Morelli’s taken his latest girl out for a ride on Coney Island’s Ferris wheel when the operator and his two bodyguards on the ground are killed. Another two guards in the next car from Morelli are also dispatched before the killer, Tora-No-Shi, crashes into Morelli’s car and murders him too. Sara, Jake and Copeland are all present at the scene, as is a Detective Lee of Coney Island Bureau. On the beach not far away Lord Sonatine, leader of The Brotherhood of the Darkness, is meeting with the Yakuza leader to view the work of Tora.
Nottingham in sent by Irons to talk with the Yakuza to bring an end to the gang war.
Merloni gets bail from Sonatine and is released, Sara’s furious, and then Siry gets a phone call to say Merloni’s body’s been found in Central Park.
Nottingham finds the Yakuza and comes face to face with Tora-No-Shi.
At the scene of the crime Sara flies off the handle with Copeland, punching him in the face and threatening him.
Ian and Tora speak briefly and then a fight ensues, Ian begins to question his whole life and purpose, giving Tora a chance to stick a sword in him…

Ian’s delirious after being left for dead but Excalibur looks after him and puts him back on his feet. At the station Jake and Sara are working on Merloni’s murder when the Witchblade comes to life. Sara runs to the bathroom only to see Ian in the mirror. Detective Lee drops by and he and Sara agree to have dinner sometime.
Sara’s vision of Ian leads her and Jake to the hotel room where Ian and Tora fought. Jake goes to see Mrs Morloni while Sara investigates the hotel room further on her own.
Irons gets a home visit from Tora who’s ready to kill Irons until Nottingham arrives.
Jake meets Mrs Morloni and finds a large problem with Vinny’s statement and a connection to the Statue of Liberty.
Copeland picks Sara up in Chinatown and then goes crazy, pulling a gun on her. He’s not watching the road though and a bus is heading right towards them…

Sara and Copeland survive the crash thanks to the Witchblade and then Sara gets another vision of Ian who’s taking care of Tora-No-Shi.
Leaving Tora in a heap on the floor Ian goes to take care of business elsewhere just before Sara arrives. She learns Ian has gone to the Statue of Liberty.
Jake’s searching for the entrance to Sonatine’s lair when Nottingham falls from a helicopter overhead and blasts a hole in the ground, much to Jake’s surprise. Nottingham takes on Sonatine and is followed in by Sara who argues with Ian. Sonatine tries to take both gauntlets but fails miserably. Ian then goes crazy and tries to attack Sara, Jakes then appears and tries to protect Sara but Nottingham grabs them both. Jake manages to fire a shot into Nottingham and the two of them run for it, just before it all goes bang…

#58 - September 2002
Prelude to Endgame

Sara and Jake have been spared by Excalibur, why Nottingham doesn’t know.
Overhead a blue light shoots across the New York skyline, watched by Irons who seems to have some sort of plan for Tora-No-Shi.
A woman is admitted to the ER and almost dies, but with a glow of blue to her eyes she’s saved.
Sara and Jake are being seen as heroes back at the station, Irons comes down to give his congratulations, and to meet with Siry. Jake then gets a phone call for Sara, from Lisa Buzanis. Sara meets her at the hospital where Lisa is waiting for news on her boyfriend who’s overdosed. Sara is not at all happy to see Lisa’s dropout boyfriend and is threatening him when his doctor walks in, and the Witchblade says “weave”.
The lady who almost died earlier has taken her husband for a walk in a cemetery, where something strange happens to her…

#59 - October 2002
Prelude to Endgame

Sara and Jake are up in front of Internal Affairs about the Statue of Liberty incident but get off lightly with a warning. Siry wants to talk to Sara about her father Frank but she cuts him short.
Sara then speaks to a lady who’s worried about her neighbours who’ve gone missing, the lady who almost died and her husband, who Sara remembers seeing coming out of hospital when she went in to see Lisa. She gets worried about Lisa and goes to see her.
Jake is chasing another line of enquiry, going to talk to the lady’s ER doctor. He finds out everyone who the doctor treated that day has disappeared with their partners. Sara and Jake find the latest couple to have been treated and follow them, Sara getting a call from Lee during the journey which makes Jake jealous, to a cemetery. They follow the couple on foot and the Witchblade starts telling Sara “weave” and then attacks Jake. Sara controls the blade but during the commotion they lose the couple in a blue light… Continued in Tomb Raider #25.

#60 - November 2002
Endgame Part 2

Lara’s been possessed by the weave and Sara’s baffled. The SWAT team fires on Lara and she turns on them and the onlookers whilst Nottingham oversees the scene.
Jake and Siry are on their way to the scene while Lara battles with the SWAT team and Sara. Lara takes Sara prisoner and in an apartment block and then cocoons the block in blue light. Jake fires on this as and the blue light flies off across town, landing in the cemetery where Endgame began.
Hideous worms spring from the ground and take Sara down to the one who sleeps, who isn’t so sleepy anymore…Continued in Evo #1.

#61 - February 2003
Epilogue to Endgame

Distraught and worn out after the events of Endgame Sara goes back to her apartment for some well deserved sleep. She’s woken the next day by her sister Julie who’s come to visit.
Whilst getting up and dressed there’s a knock on the door, Sara’s expecting her date, but instead the Hyper Sapiens (see Evo #1) turn up on her doorstop needing her help.
Deep below the Earth’s surface the events in Sara’s apartment are being watched by two men.
One of the group, Rayla, wants to take the Witchblade and tries to do so by force, with Sara eventually keeping it. The group leaves without the help they needed and Sara’s left in peace to go for coffee with Jake.

#62 - March 2003
Part 1 of 4

A New York telecommunications company which by all accounts should have gone bust is still going strong and the Feds want to know how they’ve managed to keep going, so they send in an agent to investigate the company. Working late one night this agent is killed by an mysterious, and very attractive, young woman.
Sara and Jake are investigating the murder.
In Clinton, aka Hell’s Kitchen, the Magdalena receives her next mission…
Sara revists the scene of crime late that night and spots an attractive woman out on the roof and goes out to question her. She and the Witchblade become paralysed by a group of blue coloured  entities, seemingly controlled by the woman. The Magdalena then appears and saves Sara’s neck and kills the woman.
The two have work to do...

#63 - April 2003
Part 2 of 4

Sara and Jake’s chief suspect for the murder of Steven Scott, Jon Epner, is also murdered by a very attractive young woman, just as Jake comes through the door to question to him. Meanwhile Sara is at the Medical Examiner’s discovering, just as Patience said she would, a coin in the dead man’s stomach. Sara meets Patience in Hell’s Kitchen and the two discuss the next step to take, under the watch of Level 42. Strangely Patience knows they are being watched, causing the observers to question whether she is a “noble one”. Their plan of action is to visit the monthly gathering of a sect who follow the teachings of King Solomon. At the station the next day Julie shows up and asks Jake out for dinner, he can’t but Siry offers to have lunch with her, causing Julie to complain about Sara’s continuing animosity towards Joe. Sara, Jake and Patience attend the meeting, the two ladies draw blanks but Jake leaves the room with a very attractive young woman. Sara and Patience follow them out and the woman turns out to be harmless, but the same can’t be said for the concrete tentacles which rise from the ground behind them…

#64 - May 2003

The tentacles turn out to be just an illusion created by a young boy, Sara and Jake question him but don't get very far before his father comes in and takes the child home. They do get a lead however and follow it up by visiting another boy's house to check out his room, what they find is disturbing. Patience goes off on her own to do some more digging and Sara is left on her own as Jake has disappeared too, unbeknown to her he's had dinner with Julie. Patience's digging leads her to an underground cavern which she finds is full of young people, including one of the young men from the party the previous evening, who isn't pleased to see her at all... Apologies for the poor cover scan.

#65 - June 2003

The Magdalena is being held by Carl Sonnenfeld, leader of the Solites, unable to defend herself. Sara has lost Jake, who’s with her sister Julie, and is seriously regretting letting Patience handle the Solites on her own. She goes to the Solites’ meeting place and finds the entrance to the underground chamber.
Sara saves Patience from a demon, takes on Carl and destroys the book the group were using. This releases a host of demons which Sara and Patience battle together. When they’re done they realise Jacob Kaplan has made a quick exit. Jacob has returned home and is chastised by his mother for screwing up her plans, which is overheard by Sara and Patience. Sara arrests Melissa Kaplan for the murders of Jonathan Epner and Agents Steven Scott and Daniel Muldoon. Jacob isn’t charged but it’s clear he’s still misusing his powers…
