Paper Monsters, part 1 of 2
Sara and Gleason are called to the murder of the doorman at an expensive apartment block. The victim has been ripped to shreds and the security footage shows a fantastical attacker. They go door to door speaking to the residents, eventually reaching the apartment of an investment banker and his two children. While Sara speaks to the au pair Gleason speaks to the children, and finds a drawing of a creature very similar to the one on the security footage. Sara and Gleason leave, taking the drawing with them, As they reach their car they’re set upon by a monster…#141 - January 2011 Cover Paper Monsters, part 2 of 2 While Sara and the Witchblade battle the monster Gleason returns to the apartment to try and stop the children creating any more monsters. Sara manages to destroy the monster, while another chases Gleason into the apartment. It then follows Gleason into the children’s bedroom, where Sara is able to destroy it and prevent the children from doing any more drawings. Rather than arresting the children Sara arranges for Samantha Argent of Hunter-Killer to keep an eye on the children and help them learn how to control their power. #142 - February 2011 Cover Gleason is dispatched to an upstate Sheriff's office to collect a murdered and take him back to New York City. Once the paper work is signed Gleason returns to the cell and finds the Sheriff and all but one of his deputies have been murdered, but the prisoner is still shackled in his cell. Gleason enters the cell and murderous ghosts appear. Gleason, the remaining deputy (Kate) and the prisoner flee to the basement to make their escape but before they can reach the exit the ghosts have blocked the door... #143 - March 2011 Cover Gleason, Kate and the prisoner escape from the basement into the surrounding woods, pursued by the ghosts. The prisoner escapes them and then takes Kate hostage. Gleason catches up with them and works out the ghosts draw their energy from the prisoner, and that he's able to control them. Before he can set them on Gleason and Kate Gleason shoos the prisoner and the ghosts disappear. #144 - May 2011 Cover A Lieutenant Phipps from Internal Affairs is investigating the suicide of Jake McCarthy, Sara's former partner, and is looking into a safety deposit box held by him. In the box he finds a record by Jake of Sara's acquisition of the Witchblade and the way it affected her life and work. Phipps is shocked by his discovery and asks one of his colleagues to dig out the file on Sara... #145 - June 2011 Cover Journalist Gretchen Fullmer (Gretch, remember her?) is speaking to two homeless guys about a fight that they witnessed in the sewers. One describes it as a fight between a female knight and a dragon, while the other states it was two superheroes. Gretchen tracks down Sara in a cafe and asks her for her side of the story, Sara explains she was fighting a half-man, half-machine, who kept talking about 'Paine'. Sara leaves Gretchen in the cafe, where she is then approached by Phipps... #146 - July 2011 Cover Tiamat, part 1 of 4 In ancient Egypt an evil goddess, Tiamat, is brought before the pharaoh as a slave. He releases her from her chains so she can dance for him but instead she calls up a host of monsters in an attempt to take over. The queen and her lover realise what is happening, and turn out to be the bearers of the Witchblade and the Angelus. They fight Tiamat, forging a crown in which to imprison her spirit. The crown passes through the ages to the present, where it has been stolen from the apartment of David Worthy/Gerard Irons (see #114 - 118) by a female cat burglar. Gleason and Sara are called because of the Irons connection, and Sara agrees to speak to Worthy in prison. On their way out Sara is confronted by Phipps who wants to see her the next morning about the Witchblade. Meanwhile, the cat burglar tries on the crown and is possessed by Tiamat... #147 - August 2011 Cover Tiamat, part 2 of 4 Phipps reveals what he knows about the Witchblade from Jake's diary, and asks Sara to resign before he starts an official enquiry. She refuses. Elsewhere, Tiamat sends her monsters to track down track down the Witchblade and the Angelus. Sara travels upstate to speak to Worthy. He doesn't reveal anything useful about the contents of his apartment. On her way home Sara stops for coffee and comes face to face with Tiamat's monster, and then Tiamat herself... #148 - September 2011 Cover Tiamat, part 3 of 4 Sara sees the former Witchblade wielders and the Egyptian wielder explains Tiamat's origin. Sara then returns to the present to battle Tiamat and is joined by Dani/the Angelus who's also had a visit from a monster. Dani transports them both back to Manhattan, and Sara explains what she knows about Tiamat, and her trouble with Internal Affairs. They agree they need to choose a battlefield and Sara suggest the beach. Gleason drives Sara and Dani out to Long Island and leaves them to wait for Tiamat. On his way back he runs into Phipps who's tailed them, and wants to head to the shoreline. Back on the beach Tiamat appears...
#149 - November 2011 Cover Tiamat, part 4 of 4 Sara and Dani battle Tiamat, with more than a little help from the Angelus warriors. Phipps and Gleason get too close to the action and Sara has to save Phipps's life. After killing Tiamat's monster Sara and Dani realise the crown is the key and are able to destroy it, leaving behind just the cat burglar host. Despite saving his life Phipps is still out to get Sara...
